Applying for a certificate

You can apply for copy certificates by phone, in person or in writing by post.

Applying by post

Standard service

The fee for ordering a copy certificate is £10 each plus £1 postage and packaging, dispatched within five to seven working days.

Priority (Express) ordering service

If you order the Express copy of any certificate, the fee is £25 each  plus £1 postage and packaging, dispatched first class.

If you place your order before 2pm Monday to Friday, your certificate will be despatched the same day. Orders received after 2pm will be dispatched the next working day.  We cannot guarantee when the Royal Mail will deliver the certificate to you if you choose to have it posted.

Extra copies of certificates cost £10 each.

Your certificate will be posted to the address you give us on your application. Please include a cheque or postal order made payable to Somerset County Council. You will not be charged in the entry cannot be found.

Applying in person

A ‘while you wait’ service is available at Somerset Heritage Centre, where the records are held. A copy of a certificate costs £30. If you apply before 2pm your request will be processed within an hour and you can collect your certificate the same day. You can pay by cheque or postal order made payable to Somerset County Council. You will not be charged if the entry cannot be found.
