Minutes of the meeting held on 24th January 2008 (Agenda Item 4.1)

 

            Resolved: that the minutes of the meeting be approved as a correct record.

Minutes of the meeting held on 17th April 2008 (Agenda Item 4.2)

 

            Members noted that Graham Found, Councillors Jeremy Blatchford, Dr Mike Kellaway-Marriott and Reyna Knight had been present at the meeting, although this was not recorded in the minutes.

 

            Resolved: that subject to the amendments detailed above the minutes of the meeting be approved as a correct record.

Primary School Provision in Long Ashton (Agenda Item 8.1)

 

The Panel considered a report on the provision primary school places in Long Ashton.

 

Concluded:

 

1)     that the continued investigation of the provision of additional primary school places in and around the village of Long Ashton be supported in the context of the need for new school places as part of the expansion of South West Bristol;

 

2)    that officer investigations and findings against the renting or hiring of accommodation within the village of Long Ashton be noted; and

 

3)     that officer investigations and findings in relation to an expansion of Birdwell Primary School by September 2008 be noted.

Yeo Moor Infant and Junior schools – review of provision (Agenda Item 8.2)

 

The Panel considered a report on a review of provision at Yeo Moor Infant and Junior schools.

 

The Chairman ruled that this matter be considered as an urgent item of business in order to avoid unnecessary delay in the consultation process.

 

Concluded: that the continuing review of primary provision for the Yeo Moor school communities be noted.

 

It was further,

 

Recommended to the Executive Member for Children and Young People’s Services: that the Executive Member be asked to authorise a public consultation to ascertain the views all stakeholders on the possible amalgamation of these schools.

Facilities for Young People (COM 35) (Agenda Item 5.1)

 

The Panel received a reference from the Community Services Policy and Scrutiny Panel requesting the establishment of a joint working group to look into the provision of play equipment for young people and rural provision of facilities for young people.

 

Concluded: that the proposals for a joint working group be welcomed and that Councillors Pepperall, Barber and Pilgrim represent the Children and Young People’s Services policy and scrutiny panel.

Finance and Performance Monitoring Q3 2007/08 (EXE 121) (Agenda Item 5.2)

 

The Panel received a reference from the Executive concerning performance against targets during the third quarter of 2007/08.

 

Concluded: that the reference be noted.

Time of Panel meetings (Agenda Item 6)

 

The Panel considered a request from the Youth Parliament to alter the starting time of meetings to enable the Youth Parliament representatives to attend meetings.

 

Discussion ensued.

 

Concluded: that this matter be further discussed at the Panel’s next meeting.

Panel’s Work Plan (Agenda Item 7)

 

The Panel considered its work plan, as follows:

 

The Chairman proposed the establishment of a ‘Youth Matters’ working group, to be held at a time convenient for representatives of the Youth Parliament.  Councillors Jan Barber, Hugh Gregor, Tim Marter and Dawn Parry and Mr Justin Templer volunteered to serve on this working group.

 

The Director undertook to give a presentation on the New Children’s Plan to a future meeting.

 

Concluded: that the work plan be updated.
