Essential information about this unit

PROGRAMME OF STUDY LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

Pupils should be given the opportunity to:

a) consider the ways in which individuals might express their identity and beliefs;
b) consider the ways in which communities might express their identity and beliefs;
c) consider the influence of religious leaders on believers and the wider world.

WHERE THIS UNIT FITS IN

This unit is designed for Year 7– Summer Term. It connects with units 1 and 4 in dealing with aspects of human identity and with unit 3 and 5 in dealing with expressions of belief.

  • Some students need help with matching exercise and reminders of how to use symbols to portray religious meanings, eg use of light & dark, cross shapes, birds, animals, colours etc.

OBJECTIVES FOR LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT

C3 Make simple links between a range of examples of religious expression and the religious beliefs/ideas/feelings which underlie them.
C4 Express ideas using appropriate styles and symbolism.
C5 Identify and compare some ways in which Buddhists and Christians express their principal beliefs, and explain the impact of those forms of expression.
C6 Demonstrate critical awareness of and respect for Christian and Buddhist expressions of belief and give a coherent account of the beliefs/ideas, feelings underlying forms of expression used by different denominations, groups and traditions.
D3 Compare aspects of, and influences on, their own identity/personality/experience, including religious aspects, with those of others.
D4 Ask a range of questions about Buddhist & Christian identity/personality/experience, and suggest appropriate answers.
