Objectives and Key Questions

  1. Recognise features from the Nativity. Demonstrate factual knowledge of Jesus' birth.
    Do you remember who Jesus was? Who were his parents? Where was he born?
    Do you remember what we did at school to remember his birth?

  2. Recognise that Jesus was a baby and grew up to be a man.
    What sort of things happen as you grow up?
    What sort of things do you think happened to Jesus as he grew up?

  3. Recognise that Jesus had friends. Identify who is of value and concern to themselves.
    Who are your friends?

Teaching Activities

  1. Recall Christmas - Look at photos of role play area which we made in the stable/cave last term. Discuss events surrounding Jesus' birth and remind children of detail and link to Christian celebration of Christmas.Children to draw events of Jesus' birth as they remember them. (9b)





  2. Talk about growing up and the things that happen or might happen to Jesus.Listen to stories related to Jesus' childhood: Jesus getting lost/ in the Temple - Luke 2, v 39 - 5 Relate to children's own experiences, eg getting lost in shopping centre and draw pictures for class book. (9b)


  3. Continue to listen to range of stories of Jesus' life:Baptism - Matthew 3, v 13 - 17.Jesus' friends - Mark 3, v 13-19. (9b)Discuss importance of friends. Draw pictures for book (9a).

Assessment Opportunities

  1. Children recognise features of Jesus' birth in role play photographs by drawing events of Jesus' birth (B1).
