TEACHING ACTIVITIES

  1. Recall Christmas - Look at photos of role play area which we made in the stable/cave last term. Discuss events surrounding Jesus' birth and remind children of detail and link to Christian celebration of Christmas.Children to draw events of Jesus' birth as they remember them. (9b)

  2. Talk about growing up and the things that happen or might happen to Jesus.Listen to stories related to Jesus' childhood: Jesus getting lost/ in the Temple - Luke 2, v 39 - 5 Relate to children's own experiences, eg getting lost in shopping centre and draw pictures for class book. (9b)

  3. Continue to listen to range of stories of Jesus' life:Baptism - Matthew 3, v 13 - 17.Jesus' friends - Mark 3, v 13-19. (9b)Discuss importance of friends. Draw pictures for book. (9a)

  5. Listen to and act out stories/key events in Jesus' life: Jesus calms a storm - Mark 4, v 35-41.The Parable of the lost sheep - Matthew 18, v 10-14.Make finger puppets to represent characters and act out stories. (9b)

  6. Listen to Jesus' teachings about prayer and loving our neighbour Matthew 6, v 5-15 and Matthew 22, v 37-40.Talk about Jesus as a teacher and how people listen to him.Draw pictures of Jesus as a teacher for class book. (9b)

  7. Discuss who is important in your life - parent, brother, sister, grandparent.Discuss how they and why they are important. Draw these people for class book. (9a)

  8. Invite a Christian who listens to Jesus' words to come and talk to the children and answer questions about how they are guided by Jesus' words. Share the book - Life of Jesus with him/her and talk about who the children are guided by. If possible, ask a vicar or minister and a lay person to enable the children to have a balanced view. (9c)

  9. Review with children what they have learnt about Jesus and each other.
