Essential information about this unit

 PROGRAMME OF STUDY LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

Pupils should be given the opportunity to:

a) share experiences of special occasions and celebrations in their own life;
b) learn about major religious festivals and celebrations, eg anniversaries, seasonal festivals, commemorations, and hear stories associated with them;
c) identify some artefacts used in religious festivals and celebrations;
d) relate some stories and practices associated with religious festivals and celebrations to experiences and feelings in their own lives.

 

WHERE THIS SAMPLE UNIT FITS IN

This unit is designed for Year R – Spring Term - and possibly into the Summer Term. It connects with units 5 and 8 in dealing with the world in which we live and with units 4 and 9 in dealing with aspects of religious practices and lifestyles.

TIME: This unit is planned for 12 sessions of 1 hour each.

B2 Demonstrate factual knowledge of elements of Easter / Purim - practices, order of key events, some artefacts used.
E1 Respond, in the light of their own experiences and thoughts, to stories or pictures which may cause people to wonder / question.
E2 Identify aspects of life which may cause people, including people with a faith commitment, to wonder / question.
