The most severe cost-cutting drive North Somerset
Council has ever attempted is now under way – with even bigger
budget reductions needed in the near future.
During this financial year (2011/12) we are delivering savings
of £18.6m as a result of significant reductions in funding from
central government.
It is the start of an extremely challenging period which will
see savings of £47.3m made in the next four years – more than 30
per cent of our net budget.
The
draft medium term financial plan sets out the financial
challenges we face and how we aim to meet them. By 2015 we will
have to save £1 for every £3 we were spending in 2010/11.
