The aim of Best Value is to continually improve
our services in a way which matters to the people of North
Somerset.
It means doing the right things in the best way possible and we
are inspected by the Government to ensure we achieve these
aims.
Under Best Value all local authorities are expected to carry out
the following:
- Assess the current performance of their services
- Undertake fundamental service reviews to identify where
services can improve
- Set targets for service improvements
- Report to the local community on performance and improvements
through a Best Value Performance Summary and
Best Value Performance Plan which are integrated into our
Corporate
Plan
- We will assess services and consider the best way to deliver
them in terms of economy, efficiency and effectiveness and do the
following:
- Challenge why, how and by whom a service is being provided
- Compare ourselves with the performance of others
- Consult with people and organisations interested in our
services
- Use competition when appropriate to deliver efficient and
effective services
From 2003 onwards we have assessed our Best Value Review
Programme annually.
All our services are considered, with the review areas being chosen
because they are either a national or local priority.
Alternatively, they may have been identified as needing significant
improvement following an inspection, for example by
Ofsted. |
