We are currently refurbishing the Town Hall to transform
it into a modern public facility.
You can visit Somerset House
reception while Town Hall is closed for refurbishment if you need
to visit our reception.
Once refurbishment is completed, the Town Hall will:
- bring a number of public-facing services under one
roof
- improve disabled access
- make the building more cost-effective to run and reduce carbon
emissions by 61%
The refurbishment reached a major milestone in January with a
topping out ceremony to mark the completion of the new
roof.
From this autumn a new ramp and entrance on Walliscote Grove
Road will bring visitors into a large customer space on the ground
floor with facilities including:
- the relocated Weston Library with
self-service
- HomeChoice
- revenue and benefits enquiries
- housing enquiries
- access to other reception services
- 34 computers will be available for public use
- payment kiosks to pay for council services
Fully-trained staff will be on hand to help and answer any
questions you have about the facilities.
Upstairs, the offices will be transformed to provide space for
900-950 council and partner staff, 50% more than before.
Improvements to make the older part of Town Hall more accessible
start later this year.
The Town Hall works are part of the our drive to reduce
costs. Once complete, we can provide the majority of
our services from two main buildings – the Town Hall in
Weston-super-Mare and Castlewood in Clevedon - saving hundreds of
thousands of pounds in annual rents and other costs.
