Councillors

A total of 61 district councillors represent your views at North Somerset Council.

Each of them represents a ward of the district which is an area set up for administrative and political purposes, containing a set amount of the electorate. The chairman represents the council at civic events and promotes the area.

You can find out more about each elected councillor by searching for them by name or by ward.  You can also use our interactive map to find out your ward and the councillor(s) who serve it.  Just choose 'Councillors and Wards' on the left hand-side of the map.

Councillors regularly hold surgeries in their wards where you can air your views, make a complaint or ask them about specific council issues or services.

They also sit on an area committee which determines planning applications and on one of seven policy and scrutiny panels overseeing and scrutinising council functions.

Councillors have to make a  declaration of interest about any interests they have that are connected with council business.  We also have an independent remuneration panel to review councillors allowances and if you need to, you can find out how to  make a complaint about a councillor.  You can also find out  how to become a councillor if you would like to represent your communtiy.
