We spend more than £130m of public funds each year on
goods and services so achieving value for money is
essential.
This figure makes us one of the largest purchasers in the south
west and as a unitary authority we have a legal duty to be fair,
honest and professional in our choice and treatment of
suppliers.
We also promote ethical, environmentally sound and
non-discriminatory approaches which will benefit North Somerset and
those who live and work here and are keen to support local
businesses and promote partnerships where appropriate.
Because of the disparate nature of our business some suppliers
find it difficult to know where to begin.
The pages in this section explain how we go about our business
and shows how you may become involved in the process.
North Somerset Council are now part of a regional online

fantastic opportunity to access contract opportunities from the
following Councils:
Bath & North East Somerset, Bournemouth Borough Council,
Gloucestershire County Council, South Gloucestershire Council,
Devon County Council, Exeter City Council, Mid Devon Council,

We are also encouraging the Secured by Design initiative to
encourage the building industry to adopt crime prevention measures
in development design. This will assist in reducing the opportunity
for crime and the fear of crime, creating a safer and more secure
environment.
We would advise contractors to view our
Secured by Design page to get further information and
guidance.
However, any successes in obtaining business from us depends
largely on the qualities of your products and services compared
with your competitors.
