Weston-super-Mare will welcome a very special Royal visitor when
HRH The Princess Royal visits the town on Monday July 25 to view
the seafront enhancements and officially re-open the Grand
Pier.
The princess will arrive in the morning at the Winter Gardens to
view the new tourist information centre. Following an exhibition of
the seafront enhancements programme in the ballroom, the royal
party will then walk south along the seafront as far as the Grand
Pier. Here the pier owners will invite the princess to unveil a
plaque to commemorate the re-opening of the pier.
Finally, Her Royal Highness will visit the recently completed
public open space opposite the pier and
unveil a plaque to mark its official opening.
Chairman of the Council, Cllr Colin Hall, who is hosting the
visit said: "I am delighted that Her Royal Highness is coming to
North Somerset again so soon after her visit to the Grand Pier in
2008 following the devastating fire. It is very kind of her to come
back and see how much has changed since her last visit.
"This will also be a wonderful way to start the school summer
holidays and I am hoping that lots of local people and visitors
will be on the seafront on the day to welcome our very special
visitor."
The visit marks the completion of £86m investment on the
seafront in the rebuilding of the Grand Pier and the seafront
enhancements programme.
