To vote in elections you need to be on the electoral
register.
We are required by law to publish a new register of
electors each year on 1 December.
Who is eligible?
You must be aged 18 or older to vote, resident in North Somerset
and a British, Irish, European Union or Commonwealth citizen.
Getting
registered
We send a registration form to every household in August of each
year (this is called the annual canvass). A reminder is
sent in September to those households that have not responded,
and may visit households if they don't respond by mid October.
Registration during the annual canvass is required by law and is
easy. Forms are pre-printed with the information we hold from
the previous annual canvass and if there are no changes to be made,
you can use your telephone, the internet or in some cases, your
mobile phone to register your ‘no change’ with us.
If details for your household have changed, you will
need to update the form and return it to us by post using the
pre-paid envelope provided or at any North
Somerset library.
After the new register of electors is published on 1 December,
it is not too late to get on the register or to change your
details. For example if you move or change your
name.
