Most people in North Somerset choose to cast their
vote in person at a local polling station during
elections.
Voting at a polling station is very straightforward and if
you're on the electoral register you will receive a poll card before
an election telling you where to vote.
This card is for information only and you do not need to take it
along to vote.
However, should you encounter any problems voting at a station
our staff will be on hand at to help out on the day.
Each of the 100-plus stations will be open from 7am until 10pm
during elections. The following are basic steps explaining how to
vote at your local station:
- Tell our staff inside the polling station your name and address
so they can check you are on the
electoral
register
- Our staff will give you a ballot paper stamped with an official
mark listing the parties and candidates you can vote for. You may
be given more than one ballot paper if there is more than one
election on the same day
- Take your ballot paper into a polling booth so no one can see
how you vote and read it carefully to find out how to cast your
vote. Please do not write anything else on the paper or your vote
may not be counted
- Finally, when you have marked your vote, fold the ballot paper
in half and put it in the ballot box. Do not let anyone see your
vote
