Review of polling districts and places

We have legal responsibility to review all polling districts and places within North Somerset every four years.

The Electoral Administration Act 2006 introduced a duty for them to be reviewed on a regular four-yearly cycle with the first completed by 31 December 2007.

However, this will not prevent changes being made at any time before the next review is due in 2011.

The point of the review is to ensure you have accessible and reasonable voting facilities.

As a result, the existing polling district and place arrangements for the Weston-super-Mare and Woodspring constituencies were opened up for consultation until mid-September 2007.

For further information about the review process and proposals please download the following documents:

On the back of the submissions received we made recommendations for some new polling districts and polling places.

However, there is no requirement to change any existing arrangements.

A report including any recommendations was submitted to our Council meeting on 20 November 2007.

Changes resulting from the review were implemented by 3 December 2007 and reflected in the revised 2008 Electoral register.
