We issue licences for Hackney Carriages (taxis)
operating within North Somerset.
The licences are issued subject to a number of
conditions and all drivers must wear a valid photographic identity
drivers badge whilst driving their vehicle.
Licences are required for any vehicle plying for hire and they can
be flagged down in the street or hired at a taxi rank.
Features of Hackney Carriages:
- The vehicles have "Taxi" roofsigns
- The vehicle is fitted with a calibrated meter
- A red and white licence plate is fitted on the rear of the
vehicle which displays a licence number
- All journeys within North Somerset are calculated by the meter
in the vehicle
- Fares to destinations outside North Somerset can be charged by
the meter, or by negotiation with the driver, before the journey
starts
- A table of fares should be displayed within the
vehicle
Before a vehicle is licensed it must pass a vehicle inspection
test which is of a higher standard than a MOT test to ensure the
vehicle safety.
