We are responsible for issuing hackney carriage and
private hire licences for vehicles, drivers and taxi companies
operating in North Somerset.
We also have responsibility for enforcing the legal requirements
relating to licensed vehicles, drivers and taxi operators.
Currently we licence approximately 550 vehicles, 850 drivers and 60
taxi operators.
Our licensing activities are guided by the following
objectives:
- Protection of the public;
- Provision of an effective public transport service;
- Delivery of a regulatory service proportionate to the risks
involved.

There are taxi ranks in the main population centres throughout
North Somerset. We have produced
a list of taxi ranks in the district.
The fares for hackney carriages are set by us and you can
download the current
hackney carriage tariff card.

using taxi services. If you need to make a complaint
regarding a licensed vehicle, driver or taxi operator, this
