Where do you advertise your jobs?
We publish new vacancies every week, usually on a Wednesday.
We advertise our vacancies in a number of different places:
- Our website which provides a link to all council vacancies
and some school vacancies.
- We publish a weekly vacancy bulletin which you can access at
public libraries within the North Somerset area, North Somerset
Council offices, schools and community groups.
- Our professional / technical jobs are often advertised in
professional and technical publications or websites.
- All vacancies are advertised with the Jobcentre Plus. You can
access vacancies via Jobcentre Plus.
- Local press such as the Bristol Evening Post.

HR Recruitment Team
Room 222, Floor 2
Town Hall, Weston-super-Mare

Please note that we must receive your application by the
published closing date and time, as we cannot accept late
applications. If you are having problems completing or
submitting your application, please contact us before the closing
date.
Please ensure that your envelope has the correct postage as a
first class stamp does not always cover this. Delivery by Royal
Mail of your application could be delayed and the application
deadline missed.
How can I apply for a job at a school?
Each vacancy advertisement will have details of how you can
apply. Usually you will need to contact the school where the job is
based.
How do I know that you’ve received my
application?
We will acknowledge all applications emailed to us. If you don’t
receive an acknowledgement within 24 hours of sending your
application, please contact us to check we have received it.
We do not acknowledge postal applications unless you include a
stamped, self-addressed envelope with your application.
If you applied online through JobsgoPublic, you will receive an
acknowledgment from JobsgoPublic.
Can I send you my CV?
We are unable to accept CVs either in response to a specific
job, or as a speculative enquiry. In order to give all applicants
the same opportunity to demonstrate their suitability for the job,
we ask that all applications are completed on our standard North
Somerset Council application form.
I’m disabled, what support can you give me?
We are committed to the employment of people from all areas of
the community. We work within the "two ticks positive about
disabled people" scheme (not all North Somerset Schools participate
in this scheme). This means that if you identify yourself disabled
in line with the Equality Act definition, and demonstrate on the
application form that you meet all of the essential criteria listed
in the person specification, we will guarantee you an interview. We
will also make any reasonable adjustments for disabled people to
enable equal access to the recruitment process and ongoing
employment.
We can provide information to you in different formats to suit
your needs.
If you are shortlisted for a vacancy, in order to offer you a
fair interview, we will ask you if you have any particular needs
that we should meet? (for example, accessible venue, sign language
interpreter etc).
What happens to my application form once I have
submitted it?
Please see our
what
happens next? page.
How do you store my data?
If you are unsuccessful in your application, we will keep your
application form confidentially on file for 6 months and then
destroy it after this time. We do not keep databases of applicants
and so if you see another job that interests you then you will need
to make a new application for that job.
If you are successful in getting a job with us, we will keep
your application form and any associated notes on your personnel
file.
When will I hear whether my application has been
successful?
For reasons of economy, we only contact people who have been
selected for interview. If you have not heard from us within 4
weeks of the closing date please assume you have been unsuccessful
on this occasion. Alternatively, you are welcome to contact us to
find out if you have been selected for interview.
Why do you ask me to provide information about my age,
ethnicity and gender?
To help us make sure we are recruiting fairly we ask you to give
us information about your age, ethnicity and any disabilities you
may have. It is your choice if you want to give us this
information.
North Somerset Council is committed to being an employer of
choice by a wide and diverse range of people. We are working to
eliminate discrimination, promote equality and to recruit and
retain a suitably skilled workforce.
In order to realise this commitment we need accurate information
about the people who apply for jobs with us. The information we
collect will be kept confidential and will only be used to review
our employment practices.
The data that is provided in this section is used to provide
statistical information on the types of people that apply for jobs
at the council, and we have a statutory responsibility to publish
statistics on the ethnicity of our job applicants. Rest assured
that this information is held confidentially within HR, and only
seen by people monitoring the recruitment process. No details of
any individuals are ever released.
How do I complete my application?
You can download our guidance notes for completing your
application. Alternatively, if you still require help or advice,
please contact the
HR recruitment team .
I need to brush up on my skills – where can I go for
help?
You can contact our
community learning service or
Weston College for details
of courses that could help you.
