Some information is exempt from disclosure under
the Freedom of Information Act.
We can refuse if the information falls within one of eight
absolute exemptions contained in the Act. We do not have to confirm
or deny we hold certain information or give you a reason for our
use of any of the exemptions.
The absolute exemptions cover information which is:
- Accessible by other means e.g. available online
- Prejudicial to effective conduct of public affairs
- Personal data
- Provided in confidence
- Prohibited from being disclosure e.g. due by law or court
order
We can also refuse if the information falls within one of 15
qualified exemptions contained in the Act. A qualified exemption
requires us to consider the public interest before applying the
exemption.
More information about these exemptions and making requests
under the Freedom of Information Act can be obtained from the
Information Commissioner's
Office. |
