Freedom of information

The Freedom of Information Act gives you the right to access information held by the council.

We must advise and assist you in making your request and provide a response in 20 working days.

You can access all recorded information we hold regardless of how it is held and how old it is and you do not have to provide us with a reason for doing so.

The legislation aims to make public bodies more transparent and accountable and reveals how they make decisions and perform their duties.

Before requesting information check to see whether it is available on our website or available for inspection at our offices.

While most requests will be handled free of charge, in some cases costs may be incurred.

Some types of information are exempt and there is a separate procedure for requesting personal information.

Our publication scheme lists the types of information we hold.
