How to find information on our website

We have information about most council services on our website.

We all search for information on websites in different ways and with over 20,000 pages on our site it can be difficult to find the right section.

There are five ways to help you find the information you're looking for when you're moving around the site:

1. Main channels
All the pages on our website are grouped under nine main headings called "channels". Information is organised in a hierarchical structure under these nine headings:

As the nine channels appear across the top of every page on the site you can use them at any time to take you to another part of the site.

Under each of these nine channels are up to 14 sections which appear on the left hand side of the screen in the colour that matches the channel you're in (for example turquoise for Your Council).

Within each of these sections are more detailed pages about the services in that area, and there are individual news and events sections for each of the nine channels.

2. A-Z
There is a link to our A-Z in the top left-hand corner of every page on our website, in blue text between Contact us and FAQs.

The A-Z alphabetically lists most of the pages on our website and are grouped by category.

3. FAQs
There is a link to our FAQs (frequently asked questions) in the top left-hand corner of every page on our website, in blue text between A-Z and Site map.

FAQs provide more detailed information about our services and are grouped by channel.

4. Site map
There is a link to our site map in the top left-hand corner of every page on our website, in blue text after FAQs.

Our site map provides an overview of all the pages on our website and are grouped by channel.

5. Site search
If the other four search methods aren't working try typing a keyword or phrase into the search box that appears in the top right hand corner of every page then click on Search.

A list of matches will be displayed for you to select the appropriate page from.

Additional search methods are available from the hompage only. Find out more in our using the homepage section.

Once you've found the correct page
Each page is structured in the same way with the main text in the centre of the page and FAQs (frequently asked questions), downloadable documents, contact details and related links on the right hand side. Down the left hand side are all the sections and pages that appear in that channel, colour coded to match the rest of the channel (for example turquoise for Your Council).

When you click on any text that appears blue and is underlined you will either download an attachment, go to another page on our website, or be directed to an external website. You can tell what kind of link it is by hovering over the blue underlined text so the tooltip appears.
