Committees

Recommendations and decisions about how the council works are taken by a number of different committees.

All of these are listed at the bottom of this page.

All of our 61 councillors meet monthly at  Full Council to make key decisions about policy and other issues.

Many day-to-day decisions are taken by the Executive, which is made up of six councillors, or executive members, who have specific responsibilities for particular services.

Our Overview and Scrutiny Panels take a closer look at our policies, decisions and performance and are made up of councillors who ensure the council is accountable.

Our  Planning and Regulatory Committee has overall responsibility for planning decisions, Listed Building consent and the regulatory functions of the council.

Our Area Committees mainly make decisions on planning applications within specific areas of North Somerset. They also hear the views of parish councils and the public.

Licensing matters are considered by our  Licensing Committee while the conduct of individual councillors is overseen by our Standards Committee.

  On 17 May 2011, a decision was taken by Full Council where it was decided that the following committees are no longer active:
  
• Community Services Policy and Scrutiny Panel
• Environmental Services Policy and Scrutiny Panel 
  
• These two panels have been amalgamated and have been renamed as the Community and Corporate Organisation Policy and Scrutiny Panel
  
• Finance and Performance Policy and Scrutiny Panel
• West Area Committee (including site meetings)
