We issue vehicle licences for private hire
vehicles operating within North Somerset.
Private hire vehicles cannot ply for hire in the
street or at taxi ranks and their journeys must be pre-booked
through an operator or a private hire operator.
We do not control private hire charges but a fare table or chart
must be displayed in the vehicle for public view. Fares are based
on mileage and are calculated by the operator. Always ensure you
have agreed the fare prior to a journey starting.
Features of private hire vehicles
- They cannot be flagged down in the street or operate from taxi
ranks
- All bookings must be made through a licensed operator
- The vehicle does not have a "taxi" roof sign
- Details of the vehicle operator must be displayed on the front
doors of the vehicle
- The vehicle must display a green and white licence plate on the
front and rear of the vehicle.
We issue their drivers with photographic ID badges which they
must wear when driving their vehicles.
