As part of the
Education and Inspections Act 2006 and guided
by Government, we have a duty to promote the use of sustainable
travel to and from schools.
The Act defines sustainable modes of travel as those the local
authority considers may improve the the physical well-being of
those who use them, the environmental well-being of all or part of
the local authority's area, or a combination of the two.
The most sustainable ways to travel are walking and
cycling. Travelling
by bus or
car sharing is better
than short trips by car alone (parents and staff).
We have developed the strategy in line with Government
guidance by:
- assessing transport needs
- looking at the infrastructure which will support sustainable
travel
- preparing
our Sustainable Mode Of Travel To School
Strategy (pdf, Aug 10, 1069KB)
- considering how to increase and promote sustainable travel
to schools and trips outside the normal school day
If you live closer to your school you are more likely to walk or
cycle.
Studies have shown that a significant contribution towards
childhood fitness is made by choosing to walk/cycle to school
rather than drive.
Encouraging children to eat healthily and be active
every day means they have a better chance at being successful in
school and in life!
Our School
Admission booklets have a page dedicated to parents asking
them to consider how their child would travel to their
chosen school.
Travelling to school maps have been made available to all
schools should be available on each
school's website showing walking
and cycling routes and distances.
