School crossing patrols

We provide school crossing patrols to provide safer crossing facilities for children and to encourage them to walk to school.

Although we provide these patrols, parents are still responsible for making sure their children arrive at school safely.

Parents - remember if you are crossing with your child at a patrol site follow these instructions:

  • Wait at the kerb
  • Do not follow the patrol out into the road
  • Only cross when the patrol tells you
  • Always walk in front of the patrol - not behind

Drivers - remember if you are approaching a patrol site obey these rules:

  • Slow down and be prepared to stop
  • Stop at the patrol's signal
  • It is an offence not to stop at a patrol's signal and your driving licence could be endorsed if convicted
  • Be patient – a child's life could be at stake
