We are responsible for transport between home and
school for children within North Somerset.
This covers around 3000 eligible pupils and 200 fare-paying
pupils who travel on more than 150 routes.
All children allocated a school place within the district will
be informed of their transport entitlement by our Schools
Admissions team.
Children up to eight years old, who live further than two miles, or
children of eight and above, who live further than three miles,
from their nearest appropriate school by the shortest walking route
may be entitled to free transport.
We can also provide the service if a route has been assessed as
exceptionally hazardous or in certain medical cases.
If you feel your child may be entitled to free transport
download and fill in our
assistance application form.
We also operate a vacant seats payment scheme where spare seats
are available at a cost of £52 per term to pupils who would not
otherwise be eligible for transport.
However, this service may be discontinued if the capacity of the
vehicle changes or if more entitled children need seats.
To apply download and fill in our
concessionary application form.
We are sometimes able to provide discretionary transport on
medical grounds if your child has a disability or a statement of
Special Educational Needs (SEN).
If your child has an SEN statement contact the SEN team
who may be able to help with your application.
Alternatively, contact us direct to discuss your child's needs
in terms of transport.
Free transport is also available if you wish your child to attend a
voluntary aided school because of your commitment to a faith.
It may apply if the school is beyond the statutory walking
distance for your child's age and is the nearest which serves your
religion.
To apply download and fill in our
denominational transport form.
You will be required to provide evidence of baptism or
supporting documents from a minister in order to be considered for
this service.
We run a written appeals service where you should provide
detailed reasons why you feel your child should be entitled to free
transport.
You will not be required to attend a formal appeal hearing but
you should include any supporting documents or other evidence along
with your letter.
We also monitor and liaise with the external transport
contractors who run our routes to ensure they provide a safe,
timely and efficient service for your children.

particular bus route contact our
