Cycling is becoming more and more popular and it is easy
to understand why.
Riding a bike is cheaper, healthier and environmentally friendly
compared to driving. It can often be quicker too, with riders
beating congestion. What’s more it’s a lot of fun and nothing beats
the satisfaction of completing a journey entirely through your own
efforts!
In order to encourage more people to turn to pedal power we have
an ongoing programme of improving
cycle routes
across the district and have introduced
cycle
parking.
A recent phenomena has been eBikes - electrically assisted
cycles which are perfect for longer commutes or easing yourself
into cycling, to find out more download our
eBike leaflet (pdf, Jan 12, 291KB).
We also offer advice on
cycling road
safety and have plans in place to help reduce our reliance on
other vehicles.
If you want to become more involved you could join our
Cycling Forum,
which meets regularly to discuss issues affecting cyclists in North
Somerset.
If you don't have a bike, maybe your employer offers the
Cycle to
Work Scheme? This enables employees at participating employers
to obtain a bike and make big savings on the normal cost of buying
a bike.
We have also just launched a
Borrow a Bike Scheme (pdf, Jan 12,
206KB). You can try a bike (conventional, folding or
electric) for a couple of weeks to see if cycling is for
you.
