We have reviewed all supported bus services as part of
the government’s spending review and there will be some changes to
bus services from 1 April 2012.
We have traditionally spent more than £1.1 million a year on
supported bus routes and we need to save 40% of this money.
In order to meet this budget challenge, our strategic approach
is to minimise the loss of service, with services redesigned rather
than withdrawn. In line with the consultation feedback, we will
prioritise daytime services which provide access to employment,
shopping and services, and redesign other services to make them
more affordable.
Work on the bus service strategy has been based on the following
areas:
- Consolidation and redesign of services
- Bringing forward Community Transport based solutions as an
alternative to bus services
- Reduction in evening bus frequencies
- Reduction in Sunday bus frequencies
- Withdrawal of supported services where alternative commercial
services are available
- Testing the market to push forward services on a commercial
basis

Consultation Report
The report outlines the results of the public questionnaire and
stakeholder consultation about council-funded bus services that
took place in 2011.
You can download the
consultation report (pdf, Dec11, 383KB) or
view a copy at your local library or our receptions.
Copies have also been sent to all town and parish councils.
Thank you to everyone who completed a questionnaire. Your
feedback will help shape the services that we will support from
April next year.
