We have our own travel plan called change1journey.
Our aim is to reduce journeys by car and encourage different
modes of travel for journeys to and from work and those
made on council business.
As one of the largest employers in the district we
have a special responsibility to address the environmental
impacts of the journeys we create.
We also have a responsibility to work with other employers
in the area to encourage them to develop their own travel plans. We
must therefore lead by example and change our own habits first.
Our travel plan encourages the use of more sustainable
modes of transport and improves the choice of travel options for
all council employees and councillors.
change1journey aims to change travel behaviour
and reduce car use for commuting by 11 per cent by 2011. If
all employees and councillors change1journey just
two or three times a month, we will meet this target.
We know we have a long way to go in achieving this. But,
the first steps have been made and a solid
foundation given for our travel plan, which has been
recognised with a Bronze Award in the 2008 West of
England Travel Plan Awards.
