We impose weight limits on roads within North
Somerset for structural or environmental
reasons.
This is done via a traffic regulation order which puts a legal
limit on the weight and width of vehicles using certain routes.
Signs are erected alongside the routes to alert road users to
these limits and to show them the recommended alternative
route.
The orders prevent these vehicles from using inappropriate routes
in order to:
- Increase safety for pedestrians and other road users
- Prevent damage to buildings, roads and bridges
- Preserve the character, amenity and environment of an area
- Reduce and help manage congestion
The orders and their limits are enforced by
the police.
