Weston Package is a scheme of transport improvements to
benefit car and motorcycle drivers, bus passengers, cyclists and
pedestrians in Weston-super-Mare
How is the scheme funded?
In December 2011, the government announced that we had been
successful in our bid for £11 million funding, which has been
added to the £4 million that we had already pledged for the
significant transport improvements.
What improvements are included in the
package?
The package includes:
- improvements to junction 21 of the M5 to reduce queuing off the
motorway
- improvements to the A370 including widening Marchfields Way to
allow two-way traffic and provide new bus and cycle routes
- new car park and bus interchange at Worle Station plus
improved cycle and motorcycle facilities
- new bus links from Queens Way to the station
- bus priority along Elmham Way, linking the regeneration
areas

Why are the works being carried out?
The planned work is in response to the amount of housing
development in the area which has seen the number of new homes grow
rapidly without a similar increase in the number of local jobs,
leading to extra pressure on roads and public transport.
What is the junction 21 outbound scheme?
On 7 February 2012 we pledged additional funding on an
outbound scheme to help reduce the peak time queuing on the A370
Somerset Avenue on the eastbound approach to junction 21 of the M5.
The outbound improvements will be funded locally using a
combination of money from development and funding received through
the Joint Local Transport Plan 3.
The scheme complements the other improvements already planned
for Junction 21 as part of the Weston Package and will work to
similar timescales. Coordinating the works will minimise
disruption to road users, and achieve significant construction cost
savings.
St Georges local exhibition
A local exhibition for residents interested in the Junction 21
outbound scheme is being held at St Georges Community Centre on
Friday 6 July from 2pm to 8pm. Come along and talk to the project
team if you would like to find out more.
