Maintenance work on the Long Ashton bypass
started on 15 August.
The resurfacing and traffic light replacement work, which costs
£275,000, will last for two weeks.
Temporary signals and speed limit restrictions will be in place
while work takes place.
Sections of the road and both the north-east and south-west
bound slip roads will be closed when work on these sections is
being carried out, diversions will be in place.
The first section of the resurfacing work, carried out by
contractors Balfour Beatty WorkPlace, will be the north-east bound
lane (toward Bristol) of the A370 from Yanley overbridge to it
junction with the B3128 slip road.
Other sections of the road will then be resurfaced in
phases.
There will be temporary traffic lights on the slip roads while
the traffic lights there are updated.
As part of our continuing traffic signal replacement
programme, new low voltage signals will be installed by Siemens
Mobility Traffic Solutions.
This replacement system will be able to operate at just 48 volts
which is a significant reduction on the current signals which use
240 volts. It will mean that carbon and energy emissions should
also decrease by 50% in the long term.
The new signals will include vehicle detection technology,
easing traffic and making the slip road safer. They will also be
more visible to drivers, due to built-in LED lamps; these will be
particularly effective in bright, sunny weather.
