We set the speed limits on the roads across North
Somerset.
We promote initiatives and safer driving campaigns to
help motorists understand the impact of speed on themselves,
their neighbours and communities.
The aim is to achieve safer driving by consensus rather than
enforcement.
When setting these limits, which are enforced by the
police, we
take into account several factors including the number of recorded
collisions in the area.
In villages we take a flexible approach by looking at the location
of local facilities and the numbers of pedestrians who use the
roads.
We have also introduced a number of official
speed
checks across the district in a bid to cut driving speeds and
the number of road accidents.
