We are responsible for keeping the Definitive Map and
Statement (DMS) up to date.
The rights of way DMS for North Somerset is held at the
council's
Castlewood
offices, in Clevedon. It records all the legal routes of
public footpaths, bridleways, restricted byways and byways open to
all traffic in the borough. Under the Wildlife and
Countryside Act 1981, we, as the surveying authority have
a statutory duty to keep the map up to date.
The DMS can only be legally changed by a
Definitive Map Modification Order or
Public Path Order.
If you have a query about the map, this can be inspected Monday to
Friday from 9.30am-12pm and 2pm-4pm.
It is preferable that an appointment is made so that the
relevant map section can be made ready beforehand and to ensure
that a member of staff is available. Please contact
the access team on 01934 888 802 to arrange an
appointment.
