Our car parks have retained their 'Park Mark' safer
car park scheme award.
This follows an independent assessment and survey including
police data together with information from the council.
The car parks at Hawthorns and Salthouse fields in Clevedon
together with Grove, Hampton, Locking Road and Melrose in
Weston-super-Mare have all passed the assessment process.
Cllr Elfan Ap Rees, deputy leader said he was pleased with
the result and that it was worth noting that this is not just an
automatic process.
"Having these awards show the users of our car parks that we are
committed to creating high-quality parking facilities that feels
safe and have measures in place to reduce levels of crime.
"It is also about the sensible and considered approach we have
in using the parking revenue we receive in terms of maintaining
those standards that won us the awards."
The Park Mark scheme is designed to reduce crime and the fear of
crime in car parks. Police check that the facility is properly
managed, maintained and has appropriate levels of surveillance,
lighting, signage and cleanliness – all of which contribute to
reducing the opportunity for crime.
The initiative is owned by ACPO (Association of Chief Police
Officers) and ACPOS (Association of Chief Police Officers
Scotland). It is managed by the British Parking Association (BPA),
and the scheme is supported by the Home Office, the Scottish
Executive and all police forces in England, Scotland, Wales and
Northern Ireland.
