Travellers in the Clevedon and Portishead areas are
being warned that the B3124 in Walton-in-Gordano will be closed for
around four weeks from Monday (1 February) while essential
resurfacing works are carried out.
The road will be closed from Holly Lane for 1.8kms towards
Portishead while the final stage of resurfacing the road between
Clevedon and Portishead is carried out.
From Monday, drainage works will also begin on nearby Walton
Street. The road will be closed for the entire length for around
four weeks.
Although other options have been investigated both roads are
being closed because they are narrow and it would be unsafe to
carry out the works with passing traffic.
The main diversion route will be via the M5 junction 19 to 20 or
the alternative route will be the B3130 Tickenham Road, B3128
Clevedon Rd, B3129 Beggar Bush Lane and A369 Abbots Leigh Road.
Cllr Elfan Ap Rees, executive member for highways, asked people
to be patient while the works were carried out.
"We realise that these works will be inconvenient for regular
users of this route but this is essential work and there is no
other practical option. Drivers will need to be patient and allow
extra time for their journeys, and allow our contractor to get on
and finish the work as quickly as possible. This is the final
stretch of resurfacing works on the B3124 between Clevedon and
Portishead and road users will soon reap the benefits."
