A £200,000 scheme to replace a retaining wall gets under
way at the end of this month
"As part of our highway retaining-wall inspections we found that
the retaining wall at Langford Brook, Blackmoor, Lower Langford was
in a poor condition. We have decided to replace a 140m length of
the wall," said North Somerset Council's executive member for
highways, Cllr Elfan Ap Rees. "The work will entail closing the
road, apart from pedestrian access, as replacing the wall will
involve the removal of up to two thirds of the supported
carriageway."
The work is being completed by C A Blackwell Contracting on the
council's behalf and they are programmed to start on Monday 27 July
and will continue for ten weeks.
Funding from the Local Transport Plan is being used to pay for
the works.
The diversion is via Wrington and the A38, there are already
advertisement signs on site and there was a letter drop to local
residents last week.
Rubble from the existing wall will be used to construct the
parapet of the new wall, which will be 1m high above carriageway
level.
Road users are asked to be patient while this essential work is
carried out.
