We issue Hackney carriage and private hire
vehicle licences for those people who wish to drive a taxi within
North Somerset.
Hackney carriages can pick up customers from taxi
ranks or ply for hire in the street while private hire vehicles can
only carry pre-booked passengers.
Anyone applying for a Hackney carriage licence will also be given a
test of the local area and the laws affecting these vehicles.
Most applicants will be given a medical before a licence is granted
and must have passed a Driving Standards Agency (DSA)
driving test.

To begin your application initially fill in our
taxi driver's licence application form or to begin the renewal
of an existing licence fill in our
taxi driver's licence renewal form.
In order to receive your licence you need to have the following
completed documents and identification:
- Completed North Somerset application form
- Completed Criminal Records Bureau form
- Completed medical form from your GP
- EU driving licence
- Passport
- Birth certificate
- Four passport-sized photos
