We issue vehicle licences for private hire
vehicles operating within North Somerset.
Private hire vehicles, or minicabs, licensed by us
must display a green and white plate on their front and rear and a
smaller internal plate of the same colour.
They must display door signs indicating their operator and they
are not permitted to have roof signs.
We issue their drivers with photographic ID badges which they must
wear when driving their vehicles.
To apply for a licence download and fill in our
private hire vehicle licence application form.
Private hire vehicles cannot ply for hire in the street or at taxi
ranks and their journeys must be pre-booked through an operator or
a private hire operator.
Failure to do so is an offence and invalidates the vehicle's
insurance cover.
We do not regulate fares for private hire vehicles.
The cost of a journey will normally be based on a rate per mile or
should be agreed with the company before the journey.
