We issue the licences required to place
construction and building items alongside the public highway in
North Somerset.
This includes items such as skips, scaffolding, hoardings and
building materials like sand bags stored on the road.
You require a licence for all these items before you can put or
leave them by the highway.
We inspect prospective sites before we grant approval to ensure
they conform with the Highways Act.
We also require evidence of your public liability insurance up
to the value of £5m.

Scaffolding licence or
Building materials licence application forms.
Building material, hoarding and skip licences all costs £22 each.
Scaffolding licences costs £48.
When we have received your completed form we will be in touch after
three working days.
Once permission has been granted the conditions attached to the
licence must be complied with at all times. These conditions are
included in the application form
Action will be taken to remove unsafe scaffolding, illegally
positioned skips and dumped builders materials on the road. Our
service does not cover private land.
