We issue licences for Hackney cab taxis operating
within North Somerset.
We ensure they are suitable and adequately insured
to ensure high standards of safety for their passengers.
The licences are issued subject to a number of conditions and all
drivers must wear a valid photographic Hackney and combined drivers
badge whilst driving their vehicle.
Licences are required for any vehicle plying for hire and they can
be flagged down in the street or hired at a taxi rank.
Once licensed the vehicle remains a taxi until the licence
expires.

These vehicles have a roof sign and display a red and white plate
on the rear of the vehicle and a smaller internal plate of the same
colour.
Before a vehicle is licensed it must pass a Town Test - a test
which sets a higher standard than a MOT test to ensure the vehicle
safety.
