Urban verges

We are responsible for the maintenance of grass verges in urban areas across North Somerset.

We mow in areas of Weston-super-Mare, Portishead, Nailsea and Clevedon at least 14 times each year between March and October to keep the highway safe for road users.

We have a schedule for grass cutting and regularly inspect how often and how well verges have been cut.

We don't always collect grass cuttings and sometimes leave them to rot for environmental reasons.

If we do not collect grass after cutting we sweep or blow it off paths.

We do not cut grass on land we do not own.

We are also responsible for the maintenance of ornamental roundabouts and flowerbeds, which we cut 21 times a year, and naturalised daffodils, which we cut 10 times a year.

We also apply weedkiller to walls, fence lines and vehicle barriers in the winter and strim along them in mid to late summer.

We are also responsible for cutting rural grass verges.
