We deal with complaints about high hedges which are
affecting the reasonable enjoyment of people’s
properties.
We are able to do this under
the Anti-social
Behaviour Act 2003 which came into force in June
2005.
You can make a formal complaint to the council about a high
hedge and we will charge you £410 to investigate with a
concessionary £200 fee available on proof of income
support.
We can take action if someone’s hedge is more than two metres
tall and blocking light or access.
If our investigation finds the complaint is justified we can
issue a remedial notice requiring the owner to cut the hedge down
to a reasonable height.
If they fail to comply they can be taken to court.
