We ensure road surfaces across North Somerset
last as long as possible.
We aim to investigate all complaints about road
surfaces and take prompt action where necessary.
We pay particular attention to cracks and
potholes to stop water penetrating into the road
structure as this is a major cause of surface
deterioration.
There are set criteria for the size of a defect before repair is
essential but this does not prevent earlier action if the treatment
is in the interests of the local community.
The various types of road resurfacing processes we carry
out take the following forms with the materials recycled
and reused wherever possible:
- Surface dressing - Bitumen and chippings are used to
restore skidding resistance and seal the road against surface water
every five to seven years and costs around £1 per square
metre
- Planing - The old top layer is replaced with new
material and costs between £3 and £5 per square metre
- Total reconstruction - This fundamental rebuilding of a
road costs £9 per square metre
We will let you know in advance where and when we
are resurfacing but we do not resurface private
roads.
We aim to carry out the work safely and professionally and
will sweep roads and footways to clear them of surplus
chippings and collect warning signs after the work is
complete.
You can help us by moving your cars before we start work as this
will prevent them from being damaged and help us finish the job on
time.
You should drive with extra care when you see any 'loose chippings'
signs and try not to brake hard or turn sharply on newly dressed
surfaces.
You should also take care walking on or near newly resurfaced
roads as you may pick up bitumen on your shoes and you should
keep your children and pets away.
