We are responsible for the maintenance of pavements
across North Somerset.
We deal with a variety of problems and repair them as
soon as we can to keep them safe for the public.
We specifically look at repairing trip hazards and during
the winter months clearing walkways of standing water and
ice.
However, we will also repair the following faults once they have
been reported:
- Slab movements, uneven ironwork and potholes with a trip
exceeding 2cm
- Depressions greater than 2.5cm deep and less than 60cm
across
- Cracking
- Overhanging vegetation and overgrown weeds
- Defective trenching with a level difference exceeding 1cm
- Standing water
- Tarmac disintegration, known as fretting, with less than 2cm
difference in level in urban areas
The organisation carrying out the repairs, which could be a
utility company, is responsible for ensuring safe diversions
for pedestrians and other traffic and must return the
pavement to a satisfactory standard for use.
We are not responsible for the repair of pavements on private
streets. This remains the responsibility of the owners who are
usually those who live on the street.
Pavements can also be badly damaged by vehicles driving
over them - particularly those constructed of paving
slabs.
If you spot any damage it is important to report the details of
the vehicle responsible so we can recover the full cost of
repairs.
