We inspect and maintain various highway structures
across North Somerset.
We look after culverts, cattle grids, subways
and bridges and their retaining walls in the interests of road
safety.
We constantly monitor the movement of abnormal loads through the
district and act promptly to reports of structural
damage and other problems.
However, any other repairs, such as bridge
strengthening, are included as part of our annual
maintenance programme.
We aim to inspect structures with a span of more than 0.9m (3ft)
and structural walls with a supporting height of more than
1.5m (5ft) every two years.
We also make sure privately-owned structures are kept in a safe
condition for road users.
We only use reputable contractors to carry out any work and
try to reclaim and reuse materials where possible.
