We are responsible for the maintenance of adopted roads
across North Somerset.
Road adoption is the process where we take ownership
of a private street, for example, when a road in a new housing
estate is completed.
Private roads are not usually maintained at public
expense and we have no obligation to repair or clean
them.
However, we normally adopt new roads which have been constructed in
accordance with our guidelines through an agreement with their
developer.
Existing private roads will not normally be adopted unless they are
brought up to current standards by the owners of the road.
We also provide a public register of adopted roads.
