Senior Community Link (SCL) is a development of the
Older People’s Panels that were formed as part of the Partnership
for Older People’s Project (POPP) in May 2007 supported by Age UK
Somerset and Somerset Racial Equality Council
(SREC).
There are 5 SCLs in North Somerset, four of which are divided
along geographic lines. The fifth SCL caters for the needs of
Black and other Minority Ethnic older people.
Each
SCL group meets on a monthly basis to discuss issues facing
older people in North Somerset. Guest speakers are invited to
talk about services and proposals in subjects such as health,
social care and transport. Details of times and venues are
available in
our SCL Calendar (pdf, March 11,
171KB).
Each member tries to represent the views of other older
people from their community or local group or club. These
views are then put forward to local councillors and other decision
makers so that older people’s opinions are taken into consideration
when deciding policy.
Membership of the SCL also provides an opportunity to meet other
people and share in a discussion about life in North Somerset over
a cup of tea and a slice of cake.
