Community Meals on Wheels

We can deliver a hot, tasty and nutritious meal to anyone having difficulties preparing their own food.

If you are elderly or unwell and struggling to prepare a hot meal for yourself, you are eligible (pdf, Sep 09, 22k) to receive this service. A short questionnaire (pdf, Feb 12, 48k) can be completed over the phone which can enable you to start your meals the following day.

We deliver a hot meal around midday, Monday to Friday, which is ready to eat straight away. If required, at the same time we can deliver a tea meal which will be a sandwich/salad with cake/biscuits for later in the day. For the very vulnerable, it may also be possible to receive our new weekend service.

Most diets can be accommodated eg:

  • diabetic
  • vegetarian
  • low fat
  • gluten free.

Any particular dislikes can also be removed from your personal menu, however, an eight week menu cycle (pdf, May 10, 27k) ensures a broad range of varied meals.

Another important part of our service is our 'welfare check'.

Our driver will encourage you to eat and can assist with small tasks such as fetching cutlery, removing lids and cutting up meals. We will also check that you are comfortable and secure.

This welfare check is always made when our driver calls and any concerns will be passed back to our office. We will decide whether to contact family or in an emergency your doctor or an ambulance, giving everyone peace of mind.

Costs (from 4 April 2011) are as follows:

  • Hot meal including pudding £3.70
  • Tea meal £2.80

Payment are made by monthly invoices.

We also provide meals to lunch clubs and day care centres across North Somerset. Please contact us for more details.
