Mental Capacity Act Government Guidance

The Mental Capacity Act will provide a much clearer legal framework for people who lack capacity and those caring for them by setting out key principles, procedures and safeguards.

Guidance material is available on the Directgov website.

Some of this guidance is aimed at those working on the front line who may deal with mental capacity issues on a daily basis. Other guidance booklets provide information for family and friends wanting to find out more about the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

The Code of Practice for the Mental Capacity Act 2005 was formally issued by the Lord Chancellor on 23 April 2007. You can access the code below:
